There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that highlights many comforts accompanying the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
