There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino gaming is against the law. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, features 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that highlights many amenities accompanying the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
