Cambodia Casinos
November 24th, 2016 by Tate

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, features 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of comforts aside from the casino, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
